Niger to expand Starlink's coverage

The ruling junta in Niger has signed an agreement with the company Starlink to expand internet coverage in the country

The military administration in Niger has teamed up with Starlink to expand the internet coverage across the land greatly. Under the agreement, broadband coverage will rise from the current 32% to between 80 and 100% in Niger's territory.

Starlink representative and Niger's Communication and Digital Economy Minister

Communication and Digital Economy Minister Sidi Mohamed Raliou announced that Niger will gain access to high-speed technology at competitive rates through Starlink's network of low-Earth orbit satellites. The system effectively provides internet access to remote locations where traditional communications infrastructure is absent.

This builds on a wave of regional technology developments, including Liberia granting Starlink a one-year provisional license and Mali lifting its temporary ban on Starlink satellite internet kits.

According to the Electronic Communications Regulation and Mail Authority (ARCEP), these advances will help to fill the gap between Niger's current limited internet penetration rate.
